Worth knowing
El sofá is masculine despite the final a, like el sistema and el día, so it is un sofá cómodo. Keep la silla and el sillón apart: the second is not a big chair in general but specifically an armchair. Regional vocabulary matters here. In Spain a fitted wardrobe is el armario empotrado, while much of Latin America says el clóset; Mexico often uses la recámara for bedroom where Spain says el dormitorio or la habitación. For assembly, montar is the verb for putting flat-pack together, while construir would sound like building a house. When a rental advert says amueblado, the furniture stays; sin amueblar in Spain can mean genuinely empty, sometimes without so much as light fittings, so it is worth asking what is included.
